Selecting Leaders

What kind of men should we be searching for to fill our high offices?

 Take you wise men, and understanding, and known among your tribes, and I will make them rulers over you.
~~Deuteronomy 1:13

Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:
~~Exodus 18:21

Wherefore, honest men and wise men should be sought for diligently, and good men and wise men ye should observe to uphold; otherwise whatsoever is less than these cometh of evil.
~~D&C 98:10

So, a leader should have the following characteristics:

Able
God Fearing 
Truthful
Hateful of Covetousness 
Wise 
Honest (x2!) 
Good 

And now a little bit about the sort of person we don't want as our leader: 

And they did wax strong in love towards Mosiah; yea, they did esteem him more than any other man; for they did not look upon him as a tyrant who was seeking for gain, yea, for that lucre which doth corrupt the soul; for he had not exacted riches of them, neither had he delighted in the shedding of blood; but he had established peace in the land, and he had granted unto his people that they should be delivered from all manner of bondage; therefore they did esteem him, yea, exceedingly, beyond measure.
~~ Mosiah 29:40

So, we need somebody who has the following characteristics:

Not a tyrant
Not seeking for gain/lucre
Establishes peace in the land.
Not a taxer
Not somone who delights in bloodshed
Delights in peace!
